I MOSCOW INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF ARCHIVAL FILMS
15 — 28 NOVEMBER 2021
I MOSCOW INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF ARCHIVAL FILMS
15 — 28 NOVEMBER 2021

The 1st Moscow International Festival of Archival Films in Moscow is the successor to the Belye Stolby Festival. Since 1997, it has been organized by the Gosfilmofond of Russia to acquaint film scholar and cinephiles with the collection of one of the most important film archives in the world and the largest in Russia. Previously, the festival was held in the Moscow region in the cinema halls of the Gosfilmofond. In 2021, the festival of archival films will be held in Moscow for the first time. It will receive a new status and a new life, preserving the traditions laid down by the inspirer and artistic director of the Belye Stolby festival, film expert and archivist Vladimir Yuryevich Dmitriev (1940-2013) and continued by the film historian Pyotr Bagrov, who has overseen the festival in recent years.

Screenings will take place at the Illusion, Moskino Cosmos, Khudozhestvenny cinemas, the Documentary Film Center (CDK), and the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art. Most of the films will be screened from the film in their original language with Russian subtitles.
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
Olga Lyubimova,
Minister of Culture
Russian Federation
Dear friends!

On behalf of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, I would like to welcome the participants, organizers, and guests of the 1st Moscow International Festival of Archival Films.
The film screening, which has become the successor to the international festival " Belye Stolby", renowned throughout the country, has received a new lease of life this year, which is especially important in the context of a fruitful intercultural dialogue.
As part of the eventful program, guests of the festival will have a unique opportunity to get acquainted with masterpieces from the rich collection of the Gosfilmofond, Russian and foreign film archives. The surviving works represent a real historical and cultural phenomenon and will be highly appreciated by the audience.
I am sure the festival has every chance of becoming a global event. I wish the Gosfilmofond team great success and great pleasure to the guests!

Vladimir Malyshev,
Rector of the All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography named after S. A. Gerasimov
Dear friends!

I congratulate you on this celebration of a rare, great, and unconditional, interesting cinema!
As the General Director of the Gosfilmofond, I started this festival, and now, as an honorary president, I am glad to welcome it to Moscow. This is a bold step, especially in modern realities. Nevertheless, the step is inevitable. I am happy that archival films more and more often leave the walls of storage facilities, leading cinematics, archives, and distributors are engaged in the restoration of legendary films, find, restore «lost» tapes, and return them to the viewer.
I hope that over time this archival fever will spread throughout Moscow and the entire country. And not just once a year. These films are a wonderful school, boundless inspiration, and an incredible aesthetic impression and emotional shock.
I envy those who will join the screenings of the Festival of Archival Films for the first time, and wish my dear and beloved Gosfilmofond full houses and sparkling ideas for new festivals!
